Used primarily for vehicle extrication in order to remove a victim safely from the vehicle when involved in a traffic collision. Common device that is carried on ambulances, fire trucks, rescue squads, and other first responders. Extrication devices are typically applied by a trained first responder, such as an EMT, Paramedic, or other qualified emergency responder. Typically used along with a cervical collar. The extrication devices help to secure the head, neck and torso in an anatomically neutral position which reduces the possibility of incurring additional injuries during extraction.
